Liang Sicheng Liang Sicheng (1901-1972) worked in architectural education for many years and made great contributions to this field. In the 1930s, Liang Sicheng began systematic surveys and research on ancient Chinese structures. Many of his papers and theses have great academic value. Liang Sicheng contributed much to the planning and construction of Beijing. He took part in many important tasks such as the design of the national emblem, the Monument of the People's Heroes and the Memorial Hall of Monk Jianzhen in Yangzhou. Liang Sicheng is one of the earliest scholars to scientifically document China's ancient structures. His academic achievements are an invaluable treasure for Chinese architects. Wu Liangyong Born in 1922, Wu Liangyong was once Vice President of the International Union of Architects and President of the World Society of Ekistics. He has become one of the forefathers of construction and city planning since the founding of the People's Republic of China. His representative work, the new quadrangle courtyard in Beijing's Ju'er Hutong, won the UN's 1992 World Residential Prize, the Gold Medal for Architecture from the Asian Architecture Society and the Creativity Award from the Chinese Academy of Architecture. One of the key projects he oversees is the protection and development of architectural environments during the urbanization of developed areas. This is regarded as an internationally important scientific research achievement. Zhang Kaiji Born in 1912, Zhang Kaiji is a first generation architect after the founding of People's Republic of China. He graduated from Nanjing Central University in 1935 and once served as General Architect of the Beijing Architectural Design and Research Institute. He was also an architectural consultant for the Beijing Municipal Government and the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Chinese Academy of Architecture. In 1990, he was given the title of Architectural Master by the Ministry of Construction. His designs include the ceremonial platform for Tiananmen Tower, the China Revolutionary Museum, the Museum of Chinese History, the Diaoyutai State Guest Hotel and the Beijing Observatory among others. Yang Tingbao Yang Tingbao (1901-1982) went to study in America in 1912. He entered the Architecture Department of the University of Pennsylvania and took first place in the 1924 Emerson Prize Competition.
