Badain Jaran Desert lies in the north of Alashan Youqi of Inner Mongolia. It covers an area of 47,000 square kilometers, over 10,000 square kilometers of which have not been explored until now. The amount of annual precipitation in this area is no more than 40 mm, and the evaporation capacity is over 4000 mm. However, more than 100 lakes are distributed widely in the desert, covered with reeds. Water birds chase each other on the lakes, and fishes swim at the lake bottom. Therefore, Badain Jaran Desert has been reputed as the "most vigorous desert", which attracts thousands of visitors from home and abroad every year.
