Pingju Opera is a local theater genre exclusive to north China's Hebei Province. To celebrate the Opera's centennial, stars from Tangshan in Hebei province, Beijing and Tianjin municipalities and Shenyang in northeast China staged a grand performance. Some of Pingju opera´s most established artists including Feng Yuping, Zeng Shaojuan and Luo Huiqin performed well known excerpts of this particular art form. The show also chronicled the opera´s long and winding development over the past one hundred years. On Tuesday night, Yanshan Theatre was packed with the opera´s most die-hard fans. They heard not only the established artists who were winners of the Plum Blossom Awards, but also became acquainted with upcoming young artists. Pingju opera was established as an art form, in 1910 in the city of Tangshan. It incorporates musical elements from narrative song form and folk dance. Its folk roots and colloquial language allowed it to spread throughout most of northern China, and then to other parts of the country. Total:1 Page: 1
