The Chase of the Sun2010-4-29 17:01:00 From: cri.cn
Long, after the separation of the sky and the earth, there lived in the forest a giant clan. Their chieftain, Kua Fu, wears two golden snakes on his ear lobes and in his hands. They are brave and diligent and lived a free and happily life. But one year, the weather was extremely hot. Therefore, rivers dried up and many trees died. One after another, Kua Fu's clan people died of dehydration. Kua Fu's heart was gripped by grief. He told his clans he would catch the sun and hold it to the order of man no matter what. Thus, began his chase for the sun despite of the discouragements from his people. First, he started to run towards the Sun. He ran like wind, but soon found out that the sun also as fast. He ran over mountains and river and the land shook at his heavy footsteps. He ran for several days but the Sun was still quite far away. When he stopped to empty the dirt in his shoes, it immediately became a small dirt mountain. Finally one day he caught the Sun before it was down. He tried to hold it in his arms but it was so hot he had to let go. By this time, he was very thirsty, so he ran to the Yellow River and drank it up, but he still felt thirsty. So he ran west and drank up the Wei River too. Thirsty still, he ran north towards a huge lake, but never arrived. He died of thirst along the way. At his death, he was full of sorrow for his people. He threw his blue club towards the west with his last strength. It afterwards became a large peach forest, and travelers can always relieve their thirst with the tasty peach. Kua Fu's story reflected the ancient Chinese people's will to overcome drought. Kua Fu died but his perseverance remained in the people's heart. Until now, there is still some mountains named "Kua Fu mountain" in commemoration of his will to survive. Total:1 Page: 1
