Qiao Yu, famous Chinese lyrics writer, was born in 1927 in Jining, Shandong province. He was regarded as the leading authority of Chinese lyrics writing cycle.
In 1946, he began to study in college of art, Northern University. After the founding of New China in 1949, he used to be a member of writing group of China Central Academy of Drama, China Association of Dramatists, and play writing department of Ministry of Culture. After 1977, he assumed successively the vice dean and dean of China Theater of Song and Dance, the dean of China Academy of Music and Literature, director of China International Communication Center of Culture, and the councilor of 8th session of CPPCC. Qiao's writing has kept pace with the time. In 1950's, he wrote a series of widely known works, such as movie scripts the Third Sister Liu, Red Child, and lyrics My Motherland, Song of Peony, Let's Pull on the Oars. After China adopted reform and opening-up policy in 1980's, Qiao's lyrics like Tonight Unforgettable, Missing You, the Red of Setting Sun, Eulogy of China, express the heart of Chinese people in the new period of time. Therefore, his works have become classics that are widely spread and loved. Qiao's representative works include My Motherland, It Is Said that Shanxi Has Gorgeous Scenery, Let's Pull on the oars, Rose in Heart, Tonight Unforgettable, Love Our China, and so on.
