Renowned song writer Zhang Li was born on October 17th, 1932, in Da Lian. In 1948, he enrolled at Lu Xun Art Academy of Northeast and majored in literature. In 1955, he began to teach in department of Chinese literature at Beijing Normal University. In 1970, he was redeployed into the composition group of Central Orchestral of National Music as the top-ranking playwright.
During his more than 50 years as a composer, Zhang Li wrote a great number of popular works, such as the Shadow of Fence, the Awesome Wind of Asia, I and My Motherlan.. Zhang's career had not been smooth sailing. In the 1960's, his early works used to be denied by some masters from the older generation. This didn't discourage him; instead, it made him work even harder. Finally he achieved success and became loved by audiences across the country.
