Wang Luobin was born in January 1913 in Beijing. In 1919, Wang began to study in an elementary school. At that time, the "campaign of new culture" was on the stage. Therefore, Wang got to learn many campus songs. Meanwhile, he began to learn some western and Japanese tunes. In 1924, Wnag studied in a mission school in the county of Tong. In the choir, he learned about harmony, and learned the basics of chords. In 1931, Wang enrolled in Peking Normal School and majored in art. There he learned vocal music and piano from Mrs. Horwath, and received a thorough music education.
In 1937, Wang joined the War Service Group of the Northwest, led by famous writer Ding Ling. During this period, Wang composed songs like Song of Laundry and Hometown Fellow on the battleground. In the spring of 1938, Wang was dispatched to Xinjiang. In the west, Wang listened a great deal of folk music, and was deeply lost in those lyric tunes. Once, a Uygur driver sang him a Tulufan folk song called The Town of Daban. Wang was at once attracted by this song and learned the tune immediately. He translated the lyrics and renamed the tune "song of coachman." This is the first folk song with ethnic minority roots that he revised, and is a turning point in his life as a composer. Wang soon developed a passion for folk music. Wang collected, revised, and wrote down a large number of excellent folk songs of minority nationalities, which included Lift your Veil, Youth Waltz, I will Waiting for You till Tomorrow, etc. These songs have very unique and melodious tunes. Wang also adapted many folk songs, such as the classic piece, In that Distant Place. This song was adapted from the Kazak folk song White Forehead. The song was first heard in Gansu and Qinghai, and became popular all over the country before long. For decades, this song has been loved by the masses. Total:1 Page: 1
