Hu Bingxu, one of the outstanding Chinese conductors, who was enrolled by the "youth class", Central Conservatory of Music in 1955, and became an undergraduate of this school in 1958, majored in orchestra. In 1959, because of his excellent performance, he was chosen into the professional class of Czech oboe for further study. In 1963, he graduated from this class with flying colors. He then entered the symphony orchestra of Central Orchestra, assuming oboe performer.

Hu assumed permanent conductor and art director of seven national organizations of China, including the Central Orchestra, Shanghai Peking Opera Theater, Beijing Peking Opera Theater, Central Theater, Oriental Song and Dance Troop, Central Corps de Ballet, Central Orchestra of Folk Music, and many more.

Previously, he participated in the composition and rehearsal of the grand symphony Sha Jia Bang, and modern Peking opera the Wittily Command of the Mountain of Ferocious Tigers, and the Mountain of Cuckoo. It was a original and unique development in the history of Chinese drama art to combine symphony with the musical instruments and aria of Chinese folk music together.

Because of Hu's outstanding achievement in the art of conduct, China Ministry of Culture used to give him the "excellent conduct award". He received the laurel of conducting on many important occasions, such as the closure of 11th Asian Games. In 1995, Hu was awarded "special conduct prize of Gold Record" by China Record Corporation.

Hu's conduct features in accurate time and simple motions. He is especially good at inspiring performers, and will finally create a passionate effected by communication between conductor and performer, music and audience. In the first three records issued by Philips Corp. in China mainland, he conducted two of them. His representative works include Dreams in the Red Mansion, Farewell My Concubine; Raise the Red Lantern, The Emperor's Shadow, etc.

One of Hu's goals has to led the creation of Chinese folk music on the international level, and is also his recent contribution to the conduct of folk music.

In 1999, he let Central National Orchestra touring in 18 cities of the US. He also cooperated with world-class cellist Ma Youyou to performed cello concerto Dream of Spring in Carnegie Hall, and achieved unprecedented success.

From 1997 to 2000, he assumed the first music supervisor and principal conductor in Singapore Chinese Orchestra by invitation. During his mission, he used to lead the orchestra to perform in Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen, and Taiwan. All the performances were achieved great success.
