Liao Changyong, is one of the best Chinese Singers on the world opera stage today.
Liao Changyong learned to sing from famous vocal educator Zhou Xiaoyan and tenor Luo Wei. In 1995, he graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music as a postgraduate. During these years, Liao Changyong won many prizes in international vocal competitions. From 1996 to 1997, he won first prize in the 41 French International Toulousc Singing Competition, Placido Domingo Opera Competition the World, and the Queen Sonja International Music Competition, which shocked the international music world. At the Placido Domingo Opera Competition the World, Liao Changyong became the first the Asian singers to win first prize. Placido Domingo praised him by saying, "he is the most outstanding baritone I have ever seen." In recent years, Liao Changyong visited many countries and regions, such as, the United States, France, Japan, Australia, United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, Germany, and Russia. Being the first Chinese singer who stood on the stage of Washington Opera, Liao Changyong cooperated with Placido Domingo in the Kennedy Center to perform Verdi's opera "Trovatore". The Washington Post reported that among the many fine singers in the world, one of the brightest stars is Liao Changyong from China. He understands Verdi's opera. It seems he is born to sing Verdi's opera. His excellent performance made the Kennedy Center audience rise out of their seats. At the beginning of 1998, Liao Changyong was invited by Placido Domingo to take part in a New Year Concert held in Tokyo. The same year, he cooperated with Jose.Carrcras to hold a special concert for the foundation of the Shanghai Opera. Later, Liao Changyong performed Maria Stuarda in Carnegie Hall, which conquered audiences again. New York Times praised him by saying that Liao was the most graceful baritone to come along in recent years. As Placido Domingo's most appreciative student, Liao Changyong performed all around the world, invited by his teacher. In 2001, he cooperated with Placido Domingo again to perform Offenbach's "The Story of Hoffman". At present, Liao Changyong is the teacher of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the head of vocality.
