Lu Rirong was born on June 1st, 1933, in the county of Jun, Hubei province. He began his career of art in 1945, and became the performer of the erhu fiddle in the orchestra of Hanzhong Art Corps in 1950. He majored in erhu fiddle and minored in composition and musical direct. In 1954, he graduated and became a teacher of the school, responsible for the teaching of erhu fiddle and the conductor of folk music band. He is now an instructor for postgraduates at Xi'an Conservatory of Music, the vice dean of Council of National Music of China Musician Association, etc.
During his life of art and teaching for nearly half a century, Lu focused on teaching, performing, composing and musical directing. He composed a number of tunes, wrote more than ten papers, and has made important contribution to the establishment of "Qin-style erhu fiddle" and "Chang'an music style". Lu's style of teaching is careful and exact. He proposed integrating teaching, performing, composing and theory researching together. He required students to develop comprehensive quality, and educated a batch of excellent musical talents. Lu's performance features in unique erhu fiddle style with intensive local characteristics. His performance has mellow sound and could express the subtle meaning of the music, which was recognized and praised by the old generation of performer in 1960. Lu's composition is rooted in the fertilized soil of local music. Different types of local folk music are inexhaustible source of his composition. His works have a fresh taste of the region of Qin. His representative works include erhu tunes of capriccio of the theme of Shanxi Opera, happy Qinchuan, Picking Flowers, Berceuse and many more. Lu's musical directing is passionate, fresh, and fluent, which may have come from his accurate and deep understanding of the works. The series of excellent national orchestral works directed by him has won widely praise from his counterpart both in and abroad. He also composed incidental music for more than 10 movies and TV series. In 1991, he led the "Chang'an traditional music orchestra to visit Europe. The CD album of Chang'an Traditional Music recorded in France won an academic golden medal in Paris. Lu's main research papers and books include the Features and Performance Skills of Erhu fiddle with Shanxi Sstyle, Chang'an Traditional Music's First Sstep To the World, the Status of National Music Education In Higher Music Education, etc. After the 1980's, he visited many countries and regions for the purpose of cultural exchange and academic lectures. His lectures on China's national music, "erhu fiddle with Qin style", and the introduction of "Chang'an music genre" won widely welcome from the music society all around the world.
