Shoton Festival 2011 is one of the most important events held in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. The municipal government of Lhasa will spare no effort in promoting and organizing a truly memorable event.

From August 29 to September 4, Lhasa celebrates the Shoton Festival 2011 with a series of "happy Lhasa, colorful Shoton" themed activities, including flower show, beer festival, Tibetan opera performance, etc.

To ensure a safe and clear environment, two main arenas of Shoton Festival events, Dzongyab Lukhang Park and Norbu Lingka have strengthened their internal management, increased the number of the cleaning staff, and extended their working hours.

Working hours extended
"The number of tourists has tripled during the Shoton Festival," introduced by Mrs. Qiang, administrative officer of the Dzongyab Lukhang Park, "we have added more cleaners to concentrate on the cleaning work of flower exhibition rooms and performance venues. Meanwhile, our working hour has been extended from 7 am- 8 pm to 6 am - 9 pm."

110 tons of rubbish in 7 days needed to be cleared
As the number of tourists surges, the rubbish generated in the two parks have doubled. It is estimated that up to110 tons of rubbish in the coming 7 days would be needed to be cleared. "The main garbage are beverage cans, beer bottles and disposable lunch boxes, bowls and chopsticks," added by Mrs. Qiang.

Youngster volunteers called out for city's cleaning work
Hundreds of students went out for environment cleaning and protection in response to the government call.130 environmental volunteers joined the environmental protection activities held in Norbu Lingka and picked up garbage along the walking way.
