The History of Taichi's Development in Peking2012-9-29 15:52:00 From: http://www.ebeijing.gov.cn
Taichi has a history of several hundred years with many famous experts, and now it has developed into five main branches, such as Chens', Yangs', Wus', Suns' and so on. In fact, it originated from Chenjiagou of Wen county, Henan province. Mr Chen Changxing, 14th disciple of Chens Taichi, made a great contribution to the ancestral Taichi. He summarized concisely and innovatively the five sets of Taichi created by Mr Chen Wangting to form a perfect system called Laojia, which includes 2 sets of Taichi. Additionally, he also broke the rules that it was forbidden to teach Taichi to someone who had a different family name to impart his kungfu to Mr. Yang Fukui( Yang Luchan). Then Mr. Yang taught Taichi in Beijing after he finished his study with Mr. Chen Changxing and gradually it was spreaded widely and changed into a new system of Taichi, named as Yangs Taichi. And then Mr. Quan You, a Manchu person, learned Yangs Taichi from the son of Mr. Yang Fukui and taught his son Jianquan.Again Jianquan changed it into a new system of Taichi. Since Jianquan used the family name of Wu later, so his Taichi was call Wus Taichi.
Taichi was spreaded into Beijing in the age of Tongzhi emperor of Qing dynasty, when it was just practiced by members of royal family. Then it came into the citizens life in 1913 as a sport when Mr. Yang Shaohou, Mr. Yang Chengfu and Mr. Wu Jianquan were engaged in teaching Taichi to the mass. From then on, Taichi started to be popular in the society and common people could benefit from it. As many students were senior people who could not do some complicated movements like jumping, so Mr. Yang Chengfu and Wu Jianquan reduced all the complicated movements and slowed down the speed of movements. As time went by, it has become many people's daily exercise till now. Total:1 Page: 1
