In 209 BC, the first year of the reign of the Second Emperor of the Qin Dynasty, over nine hundred poor peasants from the area between the present Henan and Anhui provinces were recruited and sent to Yuyang (the present Liyuanzhuan in Huairou District of Beijing)to defend the border. When they came to Dazexiang in Qi County (the southeast of Su County in Anhui Province), unfortunately, they ran into continuous heavy rain. The road was broken. They could not reach Yuyang on time. According to the laws of the Qin Dynasty, they would be executed for being late. In face with the possible execution, Chen Sheng and Wu Guangm, two of the newly recruited had no other choice but to kill the county security official who watched and escorted them to Yuyang, and summoned people to overthrow the rule of the Qin Dynasty. Then the nine hundred poor peasants, following Chen Sheng and Wu Guang, revolted with wood rods as their weapons, which became the prelude to the peasant uprising in the evening of the Qin Dynasty. Though the peasant uprising led by Chen Sheng and Wu Guang was suppressed by the Qin army after six-month of brave fight, , it started the wave of resistance against the reign of the Qin Dynasty.
