Gaomi, or Yian in ancient China, is located in Shandong province. The earliest generations began to live here nearly five thousand years ago. By far there have been over twenty ancient sites were discovered in Gaomi, with nine sites of Longshan culture included. Several famous figures in Chinese history were born here, for example, Yan Ying the famous Chancellor(China) in Spring and Autumn Periods, Zheng Xuan an influential Confucian scholar in Han dynasty, Liu Yong a famous scholar in Qing dynasty and Mo Yan the winner of Nobel Prize in Literature 2012. Historic Celebrity from Gaomi: Yanzi Yanzi, otherwise known as Yan Ying, was the renowned prime minister of the Qi State during the Spring and Autumn Period. It is said that Yanzi was short and ugly, but well-leant and brilliantly talented. He was also gifted with a silver tongue. Meanwhile, he was an advocate of ruling the country with rites. (more) Zheng Xuan Zheng Xuan (128-200), courtesy name Kangcheng, was an influential scholar in the study of Confucian classics in the Han Dynasty. He was born in Zheng Gong village in Gao Mi County. At the age of 13, he could recite Wu Jing (Five Classics). He had read a wide range of books and was immersed in almanac, arithmetic and geography. (more) Liu Yong Liu Yong (1719-1804) was a politician, calligrapher and painter of the Qing Dynasty from Zhucheng (now Gaomi, Shandong).
