According to the related documents of Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, Southwest University will host the autonomous enrollment program of Chinese Government Scholarship. Below are the details on how to apply for this scholarship.

I. Categories and duration.
Master's Degree Students (2-3 academic years);
Doctoral Degree Students ( 3-4 academic years).
The instruction language could be either Chinese or English. Applicants who apply for courses instructed in Chinese are required to take one-year Chinese language course prior to the academic study if their Chinese is not qualified. Only by passing the examinations after the Chinese language course, could they start their academic studies.
 
II. Scholarship details.
1. Fees of registration, tuition, laboratory experiment, internship, basic learning materials and accommodation ;
2. Comprehensive medical insurance ;
3. Monthly living allowance (CNY Yuan per month):
Master's degree students: CNY 1,700 Yuan
Doctoral degree students: CNY 2,000 Yuan
One-off settlement subsidy: CNY 1,500 Yuan;
4. One-off inter-city travel subsidy : a hard-seat train ticket from the port of entry to Chongqing on registration and a hard-seat train ticket from Chongqing to the port of departure on graduation .

III. Qualifications.
1. Non-Chinese citizen in good health;
2. Not a student in any Chinese universities or schools at the time of application;
3. Education background and age limit:
--Applicants for master's degree studies must have bachelor's degree, under 35 years of age;
-- Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have master's degree, under 40 years of age .
4. Not be sponsored by any other kind of scholarship.
 
IV. Application materials.
1. The Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in duplicate, including one photocopy). The Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship is printed by China Scholarship Council. Relative information can be found from the item of  "Study in China / Download Application Forms" on the homepage of the China Scholarship Council (www.csc.edu.cn);
2. Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). University students or applicants employed shall provide proof of studying or employment on application. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English (in duplicate, including one photocopy);
3. Applicants for doctoral studies need to provide notarized copies of their master study transcripts. Applicants for master's degree studies need to provide notarized copies of their undergraduate transcripts. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English (in duplicate, including one photocopy);
4. Study or research plan: in Chinese or in English (no less than 800 words);
5. Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors. Recommendation letters should have the signatures of professors or associate professors (in duplicate, including one photocopy);
6. Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of the applicants' own works. Applicants for fine arts must submit a CD of the applicants' own works (including two sketches, two color paintings and two other works);
7. Transcripts of HSK test or other certificates of Chinese Proficiency (if applicable);
8. Published academic papers or other academic achievements (original or photocopy);
9. Two recent photos (white background, in passport size). Please write down the applicant's name and major at the back of the photo;
10. Photocopy of the applicant's passport;
11. Two photocopies of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (The original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form printed by Chinese quarantine authority could be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn). The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration as they plan to take the medical examination.
 
Note: Fees of Application materials and registration will NOT be returned regardless of the result of application.
 
V. Admission and Notification.
Southwest University will organize experts to review all the application materials. The name list and materials of the scholarship awardees will be sent to Chongqing Municipal Education Commission and China Scholarship Council for review. After the name list is reviewed and approved by China Scholarship Council, the scholarship awardees will be notified by the university and Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW202) will be sent to the applicants directly.
