1. Introduction to the Chinese Bridge scholarship
Excellent competitors in the Chinese Bridge ----the Chinese Language Proficiency Competition for the world college will be eligible for the scholarship. There are four kinds of scholarship:
a. Academic Degree Scholarships
This scholarship will be awarded to the 3 first winners who won in the finals.
b. Short-term Summer Research and Study Scholarships
This scholarship will be awarded to the 5 prize winners who won in the finals.
c. A scholarship for a 15 days China cultural study tour
These scholarships will be awarded to the 7 third prize winners who won in the finals.
d. Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding competitors who participated in the preliminary contest
These scholarships will be awarded to outstanding competitors in the preliminary contest who did not enter the finals. They will also be decided by the scale of the preliminary contests.
2. Ways of applying
The preliminary contests for Chinese Bridge----the Chinese Language Proficiency Competition for the World College is arranged between March to May annually. Outstanding competitors in the preliminary contests will get the scholarships and be recommended to Hanban before Jun 15th, 2006.
The time for the finals is in every July. The winners for the first, second and third prizes should deliver their plans overseas study to the Department of Communication, Hanban before Dec. 31st, 2007 if they want to enjoy their scholarship.
3. Application materials
Qualified applicants should fill in their scholarship application forms and submit their ac ademic certificate, the results of their study and a letter of recommendation or the corresponding copy materials. These materials should be sent directly to the Department of Communication, Hanban by the Chinese embassies or consulates before the deadline. All the application materials will not be returned whether candidates are accepted or not. Some important materials such as the graduation certificate, health records for foreigners should be kept by the applicants themselves.
4. Details and contents of the scholarship
a. Academic degree scholarship: This kind of scholarship is designed to cover all tuition fees, cost of teaching materials, accommodations and other subsidies, including a return air ticket from their country to Beijing.
b. Short-term Summer Research and Study scholarship: This scholarship covers the four-week study tuition fees in China, the cost for basic teaching materials, other accommodations, subsidies and a return plane ticket from their country to Beijing.
c. 15 day China cultural travel study tour: This kind of scholarship will provide the cost for a two-week cultural activities tour in China for the winners. The cost for the accommodations, boarding and the round fees will be covered by Hanban.
d. Scholarships for outstanding competitors who attend the preliminary contest: This scholarship gives the winners the tuition for a four-week study program in China, the cost for the basic teaching materials and accommodations. However the cost for a round trip traveling ticket is not be covered.
5. To qualify for the scholarship
a. Hanban is responsible for checking of the authenticity of the applying materials. If the applicants are not qualified or the applying materials are not complete, the application will be considered invalid and will not be further considered.
b. The scholarship winners will be arranged into the assigned high educational institutions or universities for study. The study period usually cannot be changed and it will be printed on the Letter of Notice for Enrollment.
c. The institutions or universities will send the roll of enrollment and the letters of notice for enrollment to related Chinese embassies or consulates, whose addresses will be provided by Hanban. These applicants will then get their materials from their corresponding embassies or consulates.
6. Visa application and registration procedures
a. Applying for a visa to come to China
Scholarship winners should go to their corresponding Chinese embassy or Chinese consulate with the letter of notice for enrollment, JW202 form, and the record of their health check for foreigners or corresponding copy and their valid passport to apply for a visa to come to China. These applicants should take the above mentioned materials to the school when they check in. Scholars will not be admitted with other visa, passport or copied materials and they will not be allowed to apply to live in China.
b. Registration and Checking In
Enrolled students should check in with the school according to the stipulated date. Anyone who will be late check in should inform their related school ahead of time. Otherwise the students will not be admitted to study in the school and their scholarship will be canceled.
