According to the "Confucius Institute Development Plan", in order to train overseas Chinese teachers, enhance their teaching abilities and meeting the needs of local students, Confucius Institute at the University of Toledo held a Hands-on Workshop Teacher Training on April 7th and 8th. The ultimate purpose of this training is to localize the Chinese teachers in the Northwestern Ohio and the Southeastern Michigan in order to make sure that they are in keeping with the national standards of the foreign teaching in the USA. The reflection of this training is really positive.
The theme of this training is "In Search of Best Practices in Teaching Chinese: A Hands-on Workshop" and we receive help from local Chinese schools, Curriculum and Teaching Department as well as Asian Research Institute at the University of Toledo. Confucius Institute at the University of Toledo invited Ms. Stella Kwoh who holds a doctoral degree in bilingual education as the lecturer of this training. Doctor Kwoh is currently the academic director of the National Center for Chinese Language Pedagogy at UC Berkeley. In year 2000, she started California's first Teaching Chinese as a Heritage/Foreign Language Certificate Program at UC Berkeley Extension and taught the Chinese methods and materials courses. Starting from 2008, she began to train teachers for federally funded STARTALK Program. Since 2009, she has served as a STARTALK Taskforce Member and a STARTALK Site Visit Team Leader. Total:1 Page: 1
