A scientific project named "technology and integration of rare earth resources' green extraction and environmental protection" was selected as one of the National High Technology Research and Development Programs. The project starting symposium was staged in Ganzhou campus of JiangXi University of Science and Technology on April 18. Some leading scholars from State Ministry of Science and Technology, Jiangxi Administration of Science and Technology attended the symposium.

Professor Yang Bin, head of the research team and vice president of JiangXi University of Science and Technology, reported the implementation program of this project from the following six perspectives: background, overall mission and concrete objectives, implantation requirements, fund allocation, critical analysis of project objectives and subject objectives and economic profit analysis after its completion. Scholars present at the symposium also aired their insights. This project can be selected as 863 project full demostrates the cutting edge research strength of JiangXi University of Science and Technology in the fields of rare earth engineering.

National High Technology Research and Development Programs (shortened as NHTRDP) was also called 863 project for the late Chinese leader Mr. Deng Xiaoping approved its performance in March, 1986. The 863 Project has become the banner of the high-tech research and development of China. The achievements of the 863 Project has played an important role in enhancing China's independent innovation capability, improving comprehensive national strength and national self-confidence.
