April 1st, it is a sunny afternoon in Norman, Oklahoma. Norman public library rearranges the reading area to make a temporary stage with bookcases around. The guests know that there is a special cultural event in the afternoon - Confucius Institute at the University of Oklahoma Chinese Culture Experience Center opening ceremony is held here. Three o'clock, the ceremony starts, director of Pioneer Library System Anne Masters, director of Confucius Institute Sharon Gou, vice provost and dean of college of arts and sciences at the University of Oklahoma, Paul Bell, Norman library director Nancy LittleJohn deliver warm speeches. Masters and LittleJohn express their welcome to the Chinese Culture Experience Center to Norman Public Library. Gou introduces the content of Chinese Culture Experience Center. Bell starts his speech in Chinese, which drew peals of laughter. Subsequently, in the thermal column of applause, Bell and Masters inaugurate the" Confucius Institute at the University of Oklahoma Chinese Culture Experience Center". An anticipated Chinese cultural performances followed by the brief ceremony. Hanban Scholarship winner, Norman High school student Bradley Quy, hosts the program. Chinese student, Shanshan Luo, plays the Gu Zheng (zither), like springs flow around the audiences. Primary school and kindergarten children's dance "Little Swallow" bring us to a cheerful world of the spring birds. Norman women dance group perform "Kangding Love Song" genuine, charming and diverse. The 11th "Chinese Bridge" World College-level Chinese Proficiency Competition Southern United States, Oklahoma state preselecting contest gold medal winner Brianna Hair expressed her feelings on China by sing a lovely Chinese song. At last Tai Chi performers with black Kungfu clothes show the audience the essential of Chinese Kungku. Due to the limited seats, the audiences stand on both sides of the book shelves enjoying the rich and colorful Chinese culture. After the performance, the audiences come to a hexagonal, glass room at the center of the library. Confucius Institute staff decorated the room a few days ago with a variety of Chinese books, posters, calligraphic works, and sculptures. The center of the room, there is the most attractive gift from Hanban. The 42 inches touch screen that installed "Chinese Culture Experience" software. There are ten Chinese culture topics such as "urban scenery", "traditional instruments" content rich vocal music videos, people can touch the screen and choose the program that they want to play. Some great work of Chinese Art Exhibition from Norman High School also displayed during the ceremony. There are calligraphy, ink paintings of bamboo, birds have feathers and eyes, equipped with the leading dragon boat that are done by Norman High School students with a guidance of Chinese teachers. This exhibition indicates the talent and love of Chinese Culture by American students. After the performance, the audience participates in Chinese cultural activities that host by the Confucius Institute staff, there are paper-cutting, calligraphy, tea ceremony, mahjong, and Gu Zheng. Some of them stand there and watch, some participate in the activities, some ask questions, and some play mahjong or drink tea. The audience came with happiness and left with contentment. One audience said "This is another spectacular event (hosted by the OU Confucius Institute), like the Chinese New Year Gala", "Everything is above our expectations!" "Dr. Bell's Chinese is wonderful". "Hope to see more events like this in the future". Opening Chinese Culture Experience Center at the public library is a well prepared event. Over the years, the Confucius Institute has been exploring to expand the influence channels of Chinese culture. Comparatively speaking, students have more opportunities to learn Chinese culture. Public library is an open place to general public, therefore hosting a cultural events at the library provide an opportunity for general public to understand the Chinese culture. Cultural experience center will be displayed in the exhibition hall in the library for a month, after that, it will be moved to another location for permanent exhibition. The Confucius Institute decides to move the weekly Chinese Corner to Norman Public Library. It is convenient for high school students, and also is open the door for the public to learn Chinese and Chinese culture. The next goal of the Confucius Institute is to display Chinese cultural at other Pioneer Public Library system library. Pioneer Public Library system has a dozen libraries in Oklahoma states.
