Lexington, KY, USA (May 22)--It was Saturday, May 19, but members of the Confucius Institute at the University of Kentucky (UKCI) were still busy. In line with the arrangements of the Institute, four UKCI teachers conducted three Chinese language and culture demonstrations at the Kentucky World Language Showcase (KWLS), held in the University of Kentucky's Student Center. UKCI's materials were also being displayed in the Culture Fair at the Peace and Global Citizenship, hosted by Bluegrass Community Technical College.
The UKCI teachers at the KWLS were Yifei Bi, Yufang Zhou, Yue Xiao and Mingwen Lin. With a vivid power point file, Yifei Bi demonstrated greetings in Chinese as well as how to teach Lessons 1-3 of Happy Chinese. Yufang Zhou gave a vigorous Taiji (Taichi) demonstration. And Yue Xiao and Mingwen Lin offered a paper-cutting demonstration, showing visitors how to make paper cuts of various patterns.
The two UKCI members conducting the activity at the Peace and Global Citizenship event were its China Partner Deputy Director, Yonghua Zhang, and Chinese teacher, Dandan Zhang. Bringing a UKCI banner stand and materials about the upcoming UKCI activities and courses, they explained to visitors the various programs UKCI offers for teaching Chinese language and culture.
