Every year, the Confucius Institute at the Ateneo de Manila University holds its teacher training workshopfor local Chinese teachers in the Philippines. In light of the fact that the teachers will come from different cities in the Philippines, the Confucius Institute makes it a point to arrange different venues to hold its trainings such asMetro Manila and Davao City where held trainings about how to teach Chinese effectively. The 2012 teacher training on teaching skills and materials recommendation was held in Baguio City which spanned from May 22 to 25. Present were 30 principals and teachers from 14 Chinese schools from all over the Philippines. Ms. Liu Xiaofang, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at the Ateneo de Manila University, was charged with presenting theContemporary Chinese books, enhancing the Chinese pronunciation teaching skills of the attendees, and the introduction of accessible teaching materials on the internet.Volunteer teacher, Deng Yun, took care of presenting the Happy Chinese books. After the lectures, a workshop was arranged to conclude the training wherein the participants were given a chance to demonstrate their teaching skill and knowledge through a teaching demonstration. The contents of the teaching demonstration were taken from the books that were introduced to them. The workshop was very successful thanks to the active participation of the participating teachers. They prepared well for their teaching demonstration through group discussions. It was evident that every group wanted to give their best in the teaching demonstration. During the demonstration itself, all of the participants did a good job and showed interesting slideshow presentations which used various teaching methods. They took advantage of the new materials presented to them and then took time and effort to creatively present its lessons to the audience. At the closing ceremony, Dr. EllenPalanca, the Philippine director of the Confucius Institute,presented the certificates for each and every participant and commended them for their hard work.
