WUHAN, June 29 (Xinhua) -- For the past three years, Nigerian student, Adam Musa, has taught for free at a school in central China's Hubei province. To his students, he is the foreign version of Lei Feng, China's iconic soldier, who embodied selflessness. Before arriving in China to study sociology four years ago, 27-year-old Adam Musa never imagined that his journey would lead him to a school in central China's Hubei province. However, after two years of voluntary teaching at the Chunmiao Primary School, where a majority of the students are poor children from migrant worker families, Adam couldn't be happier. His enthusiasm is shared by his students, and Adam has become the most popular teacher with the children. The children and their migrant worker parents call Adam the "foreign Lei Feng", as they believe his good deeds equate him to the iconic Chinese soldier who devoted his life to helping others. Adam's story all began three years ago when he met a group of the school's students at a TV studio. "I would say that the way I came into the children's lives is a bit like destiny", he said. "The children were there to take part in the show, and I considered it to be a great opportunity for me to do something good." From then on, every Monday and Wednesday, as promised, Adam would go to Chunmiao School to help out. Since there were no foreign teachers already working in the school, his support was a blessing for both the staff and the students. For almost all of the young students, Adam's classes became the first time for them to hear a foreign voice. His teaching style differs from the standard classes run by the Chinese teachers; he combines games and other interesting things to create a fun and interactive learning environment for the children. Adam's devotion to the school doesn't even end during his spare time. On weekends or during holidays, he often invites his students to visit his university campus or to accompany him on sightseeing tours. "I want to bring them happiness and hope", the Nigerian student explained. "I want them to be excited about their future, and to encourage them not to give up on their studies." When Adam was awarded a 5,000 Yuan (800 U.S. dollars) scholarship, rather than spending it on study materials and living expenses, he donated the money to the school. Now, more foreigners are following in Adam's footsteps thanks to a foreign student volunteer group he has set up to encourage more people to help support migrant workers' children. So far, 43 foreign students have joined the group, and Adam is confident that more people will get involved in the future. Despite the end of postgraduate study in China drawing near, the kind-hearted student has already vowed to continue to support the school and its students. He feels sad about the prospect of moving away, however he insists that he will always do his best to help others, no matter where in the world he is. Total:1 Page: 1
