(XJTLU, China, November 21st) Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU)'s Executive President Professor Youmin Xi delivered a speech sharing XJTLU's practices regarding the rethinking and reshaping of university education at the fourth "World Innovation Summit for Education" (WISE) in Doha at the invitation of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. Over 1,000 educators, entrepreneurs and politicians from more than 100 countries and regions attended the summit where they communicated thoughts on the theme of collaborating for change. Discussion topics included cooperation and exchange in education, innovation in education, the sustainable development of education, education for young learners and higher education. Attendees highlighted current challenges as well as cutting-edge educational practices, in the hope of boosting the future development of education. In the Spotlight Session of the summit, outstanding educational practitioners are invited to share their successful practices. Professor Xi was invited to give a lecture entitled "Rethinking and Reshaping of the University - A Journey to Create a Unique International University through International Collaboration". He commented that university education is facing unprecedented challenges due to lifestyle and learning behavior changes resulting from globalisation and the internet and thus rethinking and reshaping is required. Professor Xi analysed approaches to advance university reforms and improve the effectiveness of intellectual organizations basing his lecture on XJTLU's unique exploration of university philosophy, education mode, teaching, research and management. Xi believes that the world is closely connected due to factors such as globalisation and the information technology revolution. Access to knowledge is much easier, which means traditional learning and teaching is greatly challenged. The redefining and rethinking of a university's value and role is therefore necessary. Almost all organizations are now researching Web 2.0 and 3.0. Without exception, universities should also consider reshaping a new generation of universities. Under this context, Xi'an Jiaotong University from China and the University of Liverpool from the UK collaborated and founded a new international university - Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. This new university makes use of the best practices and resources from both Western and Eastern education modes and explores a new education mode to meet a new era. WISE was established by the Qatar Foundation in 2009. It is an international, multi-sectoral platform for creative thinking, debate and purposeful action in order to build the future of education through innovation. It is now an ongoing initiative and a global point of reference for new approaches to education. Through both the annual Summit and a range of continuing programs WISE is promoting collaboration in order to build the future of education. Total:1 Page: 1
