GU and Wesleyan Signed Agreement to Jointly Run a College2013-3-25 15:50:00 From: Guangzhou University
Guangzhou University President Yu Jianshe signed a memorandum of Understanding with President of Wesleyan College Ruth Knox in InterContinental Beichen in Beijing, to jointly start an institution of higher education for women under the support of the government and the society. This is another major step after the two universities signed the agreement of jointly run a Confucius institute. Vice president of GU Xu Junzhong also attended the signing ceremony. Before the signing ceremony, President Yu Jianshe and President Ruth Knox exchanged ideas and reached agreement on the Confucius institute, American Cultural Centre and the academic and cultural exchanges between the two universities as well as between Guangzhou and Macon. Formally chartered in 1836, Wesleyan College holds the distinction of being the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women. Today, Wesleyan is regarded as one of the United States finest liberal arts colleges, consistently recognized for academic excellence, affordability, diversity, and service to the community.
